India’s deadly heat wave is creating havoc across the country. The worst part is that it’s not going away any time soon. In less than a week, more than 1100 people have died in our country, and experts are advising people to drink more and more water and stay indoors during the hottest hours of the day.
With temperatures rising and patience getting only worse, the least we can do is be a little considerate. Here’s how you can stay cool and help others do the same in this awful situation.
1. Don’t make people wait.

The heat is killing people and the last thing anyone wants to do is wait for you in the scorching sun. They’ll end up falling sick and you’ll be the reason behind it.
2. Don’t get angry at people coming in late to work.

This is for bosses only. Don’t think that your subordinates are making excuses to walk in late. They could have fallen sick or are stuck in traffic. They expect you to understand them this one time.
3. Don’t yell at the parking boy.
He’s only there to help you and he’s doing his job in 47 degrees Celsius. Not today, NO!
4. Excuse the maid from cleaning the front/back yard today.

Give her 3 glasses of ice cold water instead. It’s too hot for her to step out and sweep the back yard. Come on, scattered yellow leaves don’t look that bad.
5. Give juice as gifts.

This is the kindest thing you can do. To begin with, you can give one to the watchman, one to the delivery boy who got you lunch, and one for anyone who is losing his cool.
6. Let street dogs rest in the shade.

Even dogs suffer in the heat. If you have a little garden area in your house, let them in. A little bit of water and a comforter would be great too. You can also keep a shallow bowl full of water for the birds. Even animals deserves mercy.
7. Donate water.

Sadly, in our country, not everybody has access to water. Donating water will be the nicest thing to do right now. It will help people keep their bodies hydrated. In fact, try and visit a construction site and help out the labourers. They are expected to work no matter how unbearable the heat gets.
8. Understand that people are not getting angry. They are only fed up with the heat.

Experts have said that heat waves worsens the level of stress as people are exposed to excessive heat. So try to not take things to heart. If someone is losing their temper, blame the heat wave and not them.
9. Offer people a ride.

If you have a car, this is a good time to offer a ride to people who stay nearby. You’ll save them twice the trouble - finding a ride, and avoiding the heat wave. Start with family and friends. You’ll get brownie points for being concerned.
