Lenovo, Google announce Project Tango smartphone at CES 2016

Lenovo, Google announce Project Tango smartphone at CES 2016

d2f2ba49-6329-4820-a80f-22f45355fcaf1
Google’s Project Tango was first announced two years ago and has been in the experimental phase since. But on 7 January at CES, Lenovo announced that it will release the first consumer smartphone with Google’s Project Tango hardware and software inside it, by June-July this year.
Project Tango lets you map the 3D space around you by using a combination of cameras such as a regular camera, an integrated depth sensing camera and a motion tracking camera. The 3D space mapping is done in real time and can help out with navigating within shopping malls and other internal locations. It also lets you interact with your real surroundings thereby adding a layer of augmented reality to the mix. You can read our complete lowdown on Project Tango.
The phone which will be released by Lenovo will be a consumer facing device and will come under $500 (approx Rs 33,400). The device is expected to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and will have a display size under 6.5-inches. Lenovo will be using an RGB camera, a depth sensing camera module and a fish eye lens on its Project Tango phone – which will be arranged in a vertical module.
Lenovo and Project Tango also announced an App Incubator Program which will help app developers working with Project Tango with engineering knowhow as well as with funding to see promising ideas achieve completion. Interested app developers can submit proposals to be part of this incubator.
Before the announcement Project Tango lead Johnny Lee showed some demos of what can be done with this project. He used the camera module on the prototype Project Tango tablet to measure the area of a room, find the height of a ceiling, play a game of digital Jenga with a colleague where in the Jenga blocks were visible only on the tablets.
He also demoed real time 3D mapping of not just fixed objects but the crowds as well. After having 3D mapped the stage, he showed how you can virtually fit furniture into the space. He also proceeded to showcase a virtual pet which can actually follow you or interact with the elements in your 3D maps. Clearly the early adopters of Project Tango will be geeks who are working on AR/VR software products.
There wasn’t any physical module on display, but Lenovo shared some pictures of prototypes on which it is working for this phone.
Project Tango is an exploration into giving mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion.
The earlier smartphone announced by Google back in 2014, was an Android-based prototype 5-inch phone and developer kit with advanced 3D sensors. With the sensors, the phone is capable of tracking motion, and can build a visual map of rooms using 3D scanning. Google wants to combine these 3D sensors with advanced computer vision techniques that will help fork out newer innovations for indoor navigations, games and so on. Want to know more? TVS Apache 200 launch confirmed for January 20 – IAB Report

TVS Apache 200 launch confirmed for January 20 – IAB Report

The launch date of the TVS Apache 200 has been confirmed for January 20. The model will then be presented at the 2016 Auto Expo in Greater Noida in early February.

The TVS Apache 200 will compete with the KTM Duke 200 and the Bajaj Pulsar AS200.
The Apache 200 is believed to be powered by a 200 cc single-cylinder air-cooled SOHC engine with an oil-cooler, that is expected to produce around 28 PS of maximum power and over 20 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties could be assigned to a five-speed gearbox.
It is reported that the Apache could be quicker than its chief competitor, the KTM Duke 200. The other models in its price range would be the Bajaj Pulsar AS200, the upcoming Pulsar 200NS FI and the Hero Karizma, given that the Apache 200 is expected to be priced over INR 1 lakh.

With inspiration from the TVS Draken X21 concept, the Apache 200 borrows some styling elements from the Draken like the alloy wheels and expectedly the fuel tank design, but a good number of parts seem to be carried over from the current Apache variants, including the brake and clutch levers, handlebar grips, switch gear consoles, petal brake discs, rear-set foot pegs, gear shifter and the rear brake pedal.

While the TVS Apache 200 is expected to be offered in two or three variants in Indonesia, with the options of IRC Road Winner and Pirelli tyres, in India the bike is expected to be shod only with TVS Tyres, in one or two variants. Offer of ABS is less likely for India.

10 facts you need to know about Kawasaki Versys 650

10 facts you need to know about Kawasaki Versys 650

ff22a7fd96dd4460736abb62365f61cd_555x416_1
Kawasaki recently launched its newest middle weight contender, Versys 650 in Indian two-wheeler market at INR 6.60 lakh. The bike has been placed above its other 650cc siblings, Kawasaki 650 and ER-6N. Here are the top 10 facts you need to know about this latest motorcycle.
The Kawasaki Versys 650, also known as the KLE650, is a middleweight motorcycle. It borrows design elements from dual-purpose bikes, standards, adventure-tourers and sportbikes; sharing characteristics of all, but not neatly fitting into any of those categories.
Based on Kawasaki’s same 650cc platform

The Versys is based on the same platform as Kawasaki's other 650cc twin motorcycles, the Ninja 650R and the ER-6n. It shares the same electronics, engine, wheels, brakes and main frame as its siblings. Where it differs is in riding position, rear sub frame, suspension components, and engine tuning.

Introduction
It was first introduced in the year 2007and to the US market in 2008. A California emissions compliant version was released in 2009. In 2010 new styling was applied to the headlight and faring and several functional changes made including enlarged mirrors and improved rubber engine mounts. In 2015, a new model was introduced with a new fairing style that abandoned the older, stacked headlights for the more conventional twin headlight style commonly found on sport bikes.

This bike is powered by Liquid-cooled, 4-stroke Parallel Twin 649cc engine that is capable of producing a maximum power output of 69Ps at 8,500 rpm and a peak torque of 64Nm at 7,000, Its engine is mated with 6-speed transmission.
Awards
In the year 2008, The Versys650 won two awards. The first one was Motorcycle of the year award, along with the other award for Best in Class "Allrounder class".

Styling and Design

Sharp looks give the Versys 650 a stronger Kawasaki identity, while reflecting the sporty nature of its fun, versatile package. But the looks are also functional, offering a balance of style, wind protection, aerodynamics and airflow management.

Riding position
The compact engine and slim frame result in a design that is narrow at the knees and feet. Re-positioned foot-pegs offer a more relaxed position, making it easier for riders to spend more time in the saddle.

Adjustable windscreen
The larger windscreen with a 60 mm range can be adjusted without tools, allowing riders to tailor their wind and weather protection. With this windscreen, not only does this help reduce wind noise and helmet buffeting, but it also creates a serene space behind which high-speed riding can be enjoyed.
Overall Dimensions

It measures 2,165mm in length, 840mm of width and a height of 1400/1450mm (adjustable), its other measurement includes 1415mm of wheelbase, 170mm of impressive ground clearance and a seat height of 840mm.

Price and competition

With a price tag of INR 6.60 lakh, it is not a cheap motorcycle to buy , but at this price it provides styling, performance, practicality, respectable mileage, comfort and safety.
